How To Not Suck When She's Sick

So you've been with this girl for a while now and you really like her. You've seen her with and without makeup, all dressed up and in sweatpants, but nothing has prepared you to see her like this. She's sick. Her nose is red, her eyes are puffy, her nose is stuffy, and she's coughing as if there's enough mucus in her throat to fill the empire state building. TMI. But seriously, this girl is a mess.
Now as a guy, you might not know what to do, how to act, what to say…Come on! You're a guy; everything awkward to you! But all your girl wants is to feel better, and as the boyfriend, you've gotta at least make her feel comfortable.

  1. Play Nurse!
If you're not busy, and she's okay with you being there, stay with her to keep her company. Go over to her house, and pretend you're her nurse. Get her anything she needs, make sure she's comfy; do things a really loving nurse would do!
  • Make Her a "CouchBed"
Couch beds are super fun for when you're sick! It's a change of scenery and you get to be right next to the tv! Take some super soft blankets and pillows and set her up a place to spend the day.
  • Bring Her a Care Package
Who doesn't love having soup, tissues, and tea all right in front of you while you're sick? But who wants to go and find all of those things around their house (while they're sick)? If you can, stop by any local drug store and pick up anything you think she'll want or need such as:
- get well messages/cards
- food
- entertainment
- typical things such as hand-sanitizer and tissues
- medicine or supplements such as DayQuil, Emergen-C, and cough drops
- cute gifts like stuffed toys, candles, etc.
There's so much more stuff you could get to make her feel better in spirits!
  • Touch Her
If you're not afraid to get sick, or you have a high immune system and a lot of hand-sanitizer, give her a massage or play with her hair. Maybe even let her cuddle with you (again, if you're not afraid of getting sick and she doesn't look like the guy from the Mucinex commercial)(unless you're into that).
     2. Check In With Her
Even if you are there with her, you should still be aware of how she's feeling. Ask her questions like "Are you feeling any better?" or "How are you feeling?". This will make her feel cared for, and even invite her to ask you for something, that she may have not felt comfortable asking you before.
If you are not able to be with her, call her throughout the day and make sure she doesn't need anything, and isn't getting worse.

    3. Make Sure She Isn't Getting Worse
Keep her in bed, and make sure she isn't uncomfortable. Wash your hands, and make her wash hers too. A lot of tissues and some DayQuil can go a long way. If her symptoms do get worse and/or she is in a lot of pain, you may want to take her to a doctor.

All in all, your girlfriend just wants to feel better Doing simple things like these can help your girl feel better emotionally and even physically.

The History of Houndstooth

Houndstooth is a duotone pattern that originated in Scotland in the 1800s. This simple but interesting print is made with alternating bands of four dark and four light threads in both warp and welt; two over and two under the warp. It was originally made on wool outer-garnments worn by shepards. When it was first made it was nicknamed "shepard's check" and later "dogtooth". When a smaller version was made, it was frequently called "puppytooth". These names lasted until the 1930s when the current name "houndstooth" was coined. This was around the time that the pattern was adopted by the upperclass as a symbol of weath.
This pattern was shown in a Christian Dior  line as a pointed, court-like shoe in 1959 and Geoffrey Beene even paired it with lace in the 1960s. Ann Klein also designed with this pattern in a line of menswear.
Although houndstooth is commonly shown in black and white, it is displayed in many other colors as well. Houndstooth also comes back into style every 20-30 years.
All in all, houndstooth is a classic pattern that never goes out of style.

Je Ne Sais Quoi

After spending the past year reading every article on being a successful businesswomen, you'd think I'd want to spend the rest of my life in a fancy office, talking money, saving money, and spending money. One could look at me and say, "There's a girl who knows how to make money and run a business". But after two years of whining over the fact that I wanted to own the whole gossip girl closet, Jenny Humphrey's sewing skills, and Elenor Waldorf's eye for design, I realized that I'm into fashion more than I thought.
I have spent hours watching sewing videos, trying to sew, watching the lates fashion shows, and even rereading old magazines to identify changes in trends and styles. I even joined fashion club and even started saving up for a body form. Yet, there's one problem.
As a high schooler, life is kinda tough. I'm spending alot of time doing proofs and watching videos about the cell theory and not enough time doing the things I love.
As many of my friends know, I aspire to major at Harvard Business and study fashion later at FIT in New York. I aspire to designing my own line of readywear and high fashion women's wear. But yet, I can't help but wonder if fashion is really for me. I don't even have the eye or time to pick out fashionable outfits for school, let alone a runway.
And along with that, many people do not see me as someone who is capable of it. And that bothers me.
All in all, I feel like I would be a good businesswomen/designer in the long run but I've got a long way to go.

6 Ways Save Money

1. Whenever you get money, put away a set amount into savings.
This holiday season, I got over $50 from my family, which left me with a little over $125. Like the huge shopper I am, I grabbed a random amount of money, and spent all of it, by the time I left the mall. When I got home, I realized I had less than $100 and decided to put away a set amount of money, every time I earn some. That way, I will have a savings account and will be able to save up money for something I really want, instead of spending it on something that looks good in packaging.

2. Make groups of money set for certain things.
Instead of just saving a bunch of money, and spending it on a plethora of things, put together some envelopes or jars full of money for certain items and spendings. For example, if there are some makeup products you really want and they're $60 total and a couple shirts that you want that are $70 total, and you earn $20 per week, you could put $10 into each envelope and buy some of the products when you get enough money.

3. Eat and drink before you leave to shop (especially if you're grocery shopping)
When you go to a mall or store, many times you will be around food, or near a grocery store. In places such as forever 21 or malls, they place food items and food stores in assorted places around the mall to catch your eye. If you are hungry, you will spend extra money on food instead of on the important things.
When you are grocery shopping and you are hungry, it will make you buy more foods that you wouldn't usually buy if you were not hungry.
You can also bring drinks with you to lower your hunger.

4. Get "in the know"
Make sure you know when the best sales are. Get apps such as shopular, groupon, and retailmenot and sign up for the monthly newsletter at your favorite stores.

5. Only buy items if you KNOW you will use them.
I can't even tell you how many times I have bought things and never used them. Make sure every item you buy is something that you absolutely need.

6. SALE ITEMS!
This to me is such a biggie. I don't know how to stress this enough. If you find something that you like, but it's more money than you would pay for it, wait until there's a sale or when you have a coupon. You can also sign up to get coupons and be notified of sale items by email and/or use apps such as Groupon

Picking Out The ***Perfect*** The Outfit

Every girl has that time of their life where they start to figure out their style. It took me 14 years so far and still counting. I pick out thousands of outfits on Pinterest but when they confront me in person, I turn them down.
This has been a problem for me, and makes it hard for me to show off my style and fashion ability.
I spend many hours dreaming up amazing outfits that I can strut into school with, but when I'm actually looking for clothes to wear (more like frantically searching for something inside of my closet), I find it really hard to pick out things that match the way I want them to.

1. Clean out your closet
Over time, clothing that you oddest wear gets stuffed in the back of your closet, unseen. Go through your clothes (at least once a year) and get rid of anything you don't want anymore. You can even give them to good will or sell them to a consignment shop!

2. Document your wardrobe
Using websites like Polyvore, Lookbook, or even a deck of flashcards to remind you of what clothing you own is a great idea! Having outfits set up to wear on certain occasions is great for days when you don't know what to wear. You just look for an outfit thats fits your day, put it on, and go.
Polyvore is a website where you can create collages of outfits. You can use clothing found online or clothing that you own. It can make you feel like a real fashion designer :)
Websites like Lookbook and Cloth are great for documenting outfits that you've worn and like, and showing them off to people. While Lookbook is a more Pinterest styled website, Cloth is closer to an Instagram layout. On Cloth, you can also assign outfits for certain weather!

3. Find your style……and stick to it!!!
Whenever I find a style I like, I always forget to buy clothing that revolves around it, and end up buying things that are in style instead. Make sure you know what your style is. If you don't have a set style, thats okay, too, but it is a lot easier when you know what you're looking for. Maybe try to find some clothes that you like and build around it.

4. Build your layers
A lot of times I will see someone wearing an outfit that seems like it could use something around it. Make sure you use your layers correctly and affectively. Bulky army jackets are really in with teens right now, and so are trench coats :)
Especially layer when it is cold out. Living in Florida, our winters can be kind of weird. it's usually super cold in the mornings and gets really warm at around 4-5 o'clock, which is (inconveniently) the same time I get home from school. On days like this, I like to wear a cute collared blouse, with a sweater, and maybe even a jacket. As the day gets warmer, I can take off my jacket and eventually take of my sweater, leaving me in a cute blouse to wear the rest of the day.
Which leads to my next tip…

5. Account for the weather
Don't wear something thick when its super hot out and don't wear something thin when its cold! Just, don't!

6. Matchy-Matchy isn't always a good thing
Although I absolutely love matching two-peices and color co-ordination, I also hate when outfits match too much. Unless your pieces came together or have matching patterns/colors, don't do it.

7. Don't be a fashion coward (for lack of a better way to say it)
Don't be afraid to wear clothing that may be a little out there. I love when I see people wearing outfits that are not the usual. It shows courage and brings the attention to you!

Overall, be yourself. Don't dress for others and make sure that you love yourself for who you are <3

Carter Reynolds Social Media Scandal

In the month of October, Carter Reynolds, 19, the popular vine star, had a NSFW video stolen and leaked from his YouNow account. In this video, he is with the social media star, Maggie Lindemann, 16, (who is quite obviously intoxicated) and is trying to get her to have sex with him.
In this video, she repetitively tells him that she "feels uncomfortable" and "don't think she can," and he just laughs at her.
After getting lost of publicity, Carter ranted on YouNow about Maggie's past sexual life, that was none of his business, or anyone else's. In this video he states that Lindemann "owes him respect" because he "made her", implying that her popularity came from him, and that he gave her it. Towards the end of the video, he receives a text from Maggie, informing him that the cops were on their way. He then receives a call, and muted his fans, and begins to cry. He ends the YouNow by saying he "heard something he didn't want to hear" and closes the video.
On July 19, Maggie Lindemann overdosed due to her pressure from Carter. Carter then tweets:
But later tweets:

He is then found tweeting to get pity, and even goes as far to say he wants to kill himself:

That night in a YouNow, his friend Taylor Caniff reports that he went to Carter's home and found his cooking dinner, unaffected and completely fine.

Many social media stars such as @lexi4prez and @orionnichole have been tweeting about how wrong Carter is. Many fans of Carter are also saying that what Carter did was a "mistake" but I would lie to say that when you make a mistake, you also have to pay for them or make up for them.
He is later caught trying to get his fans to send him nudes and threatening to unfollow them if they don't do what he says.

If you are a fan of Carter Reynolds, I have nothing against you, except I have everything against Carter Reynolds himself. A person should never feel like he/she has to do something for another person. NO ONE should feel bad for their choices in life and should definitely not be made fun of for it. People who are supporting Carter on this are in the wrong, as much as Carter is. Many of Reynolds' fans have even gone to say that he has done nothing wrong and that it is all Maggie's fault. If you are a fan of Carter Reynold's, that is okay. But it is time to move on.

Seethrough bathing suit!?!?

This last Friday, I had a field trip to Rapids Water Park and did not have a bathing suit I wanted to wear, so my dad took me out to but a bathing suit. As many of you know, I absolute love American Apparel, and since I was unable to find a bathing suit that would fit me, my dad decided he could spend the extra money. As I was flipping through bathing suits, I found one that I loved and ran into the nearest dressing room to try it on. I definitely loved it and bought it, along with a pair of cotton running shorts to wear over it. I thought I looked cute and got a ton of compliments on it, here and there. I was so proud of my outfit!
I couldn't go into the water for a while because I was afraid to get my watch wet so I skipped away from my friends and found the nearest teacher to hand it to. I couldn't find my group of friends so I paired up with my friend Lily and hopped into the Lazy River. As we were floating along I ran into a girl that I have been in an argument with and haven't talked to. She looked at me, laughed, and yelled out "your bathing suit is see-through!" Embarrassed, I laughed it off and thought she was just trying to make me feel bad, so I went off with my friend somewhere else. I later looked down to see if it really was see-through and I realized that you could see everything! Luckily, my friend had an extra shirt I could borrow and I spent the rest of the day hiding the top of my body. :)
The next day, I washed the bathing suit top and rushed over to American Apparel and tried to return it. They told us to call the company's main number and talk to them about it.
I will keep you all posted on how it works out.
Goodnight :)

Technology of the Future

Technology surrounds almost everyone and everything in modern society. It affects both work and leisure and can help to make many actions easier. It allows people to communicate with each other, even when they are far away from one another. Technology is also a great way to learn, and there are many ways that technology can advance your prior knowledge, or teach you something new. Technology also helps with modern medicine and helps save many lives, every day. Technology in the future will not only be more advanced, but will help to achieve greater goals for society.
Technology is a way that people can communicate with one another and over the years, communication has gotten easier and easier. In 1876, Alexander Graham Bell invented the first telephone, and now in 2015, you can do even more. Not only can you make phone calls, but you can text, face-call, and more. If someone is in trouble, they could call for help with the click of a button. Although many argue that technology is a distraction, multi-tasking is very easy, and works many parts of the brain. In the future, as technology advances it will be easier to communicate and will be more in depth. Japanese professors and students at Tokyo University have been working to create holograms that can be altered by touch and can be felt by human senses. In the future this will helps with communication technology in how people will be able to use holograms to communicate and maybe even interact with one another. Communication technology helps remove the barrier of distance and can help keep in touch, and even save lives.
Another way technology can help is that it is a great way to help you learn. There are many websites and programs such as kahnacademy.com, that help you study and learn new things. There are also many programs that help students study for upcoming exams, quizzes, and tests. Also, many teachers have set it up so their students can access textbooks, do their homework and even take tests online, (and can also submit it) through networks like edmodo.com. Although many would say that learning and doing work online is distracting, and makes it hard to get things done, it is not the technology that is causing that issue, but the person’s own distraction problems. Many online homework, exams, and tests even have it set up so you have a timed session, and cannot leave the screen until the test is finished, to prevent the loss of focus. This can also help to prevent students cheating on online work. As technology progresses, students will be able to do work online and it can make it easier for them to get higher grades.
As technology advances, so does modern medicine. Due to the advances in technology, many diagnosed patients have been cured of diseases, sicknesses, and more. In the near future, many scientists have been working with 3D printers to build implants, body parts, and even working organs to use for amputees, and to cure people of diseases. Also, in cancer research it is being used to create cancerous cells and observe how they grow. The 3D printer, and many other products, are amazing ways to use future technology in medicine.

Technology is a way for people to excel. It helps aid communication, medicine, and learning. It can help save lives, and can teach people new things. Future technology will help to achieve greater goals for society.
